Repetitions
This laziness bug is an all-bad thing. I will and must get rid of it. I’ve been reading The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens. Apparently, I’m supposed to read it before I go to college. As for now, that, seems kind of impossible. But anyways, the book’s interesting. Talks about things that, we actually already are aware of, but just don’t apply. Like being positive, proactive. There’s also a documentary called The Secret (Law of Attraction) - which I haven’t watched/read but have heard about. Here’s what it says from the official website:
The Secret reveals the most powerful law in the universe. The knowledge of this law has run like a golden thread through the lives and the teachings of all the prophets, seers, sages and saviors in the world’s history, and through the lives of all truly great men and women. All that they have ever accomplished or attained has been done in full accordance with this most powerful law.
Without exception, every human being has the ability to transform any weakness or suffering into strength, power, perfect peace, health, and abundance.
.. The Secret explains with simplicity the law that is governing all lives, and offers the knowledge of how to create - intentionally and effortlessly - a joyful life. This is the secret to everything - the secret to unlimited happiness, love, health and prosperity.
This is the secret to life.
I’ve been asked to watch it. I’ve watched the other The Secret by Jay Chou - it’s a good movie. It was hard to understand him in Initial D, probably because he was talking in Cantonese. This one’s in Mandarin: it’s better but also not very clear some parts. Luckily, I had trusty subtitles to read from. I have this habit of reading subtitles - even for English shows! I get kind of lost when there’s no subtitles - I think I depend on them too much.
A couple of things have happened since my last blog.
- I got a new phone! An aquatic white W200i. I’d be super happy with it, if not for the fact the music tends to fail and the themes the stupid guy at the shop installed were all corrupted - waste of space but I’ve cleared them, yesterday. The phone’s okay really. Went back to Sungei Wang (which mind you, is in the congested KL city and in this complex itself, you rub shoulders with almost everyone - it’s that packed) and the guy went and cleared the settings. Which, apparently should stop the failing problem. And then he said, “Oh, some themes don’t work on some walkman phones. Different format.” AND he, was the one who asked for 10 minutes to do the “settings” i.e. add some strange corrupted themes.
- I went to sit in the Eye On Malaysia. It’s a relatively big ferris wheel with air-conditioned gondolas. Oh, look the site says it’s the “biggest in the world”:
An integral part of the Visit Malaysia Year 2007 celebrations, “Eye on Malaysia” brings a new perspective to the dynamic city of Kuala Lumpur. Soaring to giddy heights 60 metres above the tropical waters of Lake Titiwangsa, “Eye on Malaysia” is the largest portable wheel in the world, and the first overhanging a lake. The “Eye on Malaysia” provides stunning views across Lake Titiwangsa, all the way to the world renowned Petronas Towers and KL Tower. This astounding viewing wheel consists of 42 fully air-conditioned gondolas, 39 of which have the capacity to carry a cosy eight passengers per 12-minute ride.
We actually wanted to go before going to my aunt’s house for the Christmas party since it was on the way, but it was raining and it “looked” like a long queue - according to my uncle, it “looks” like a long queue but those people aren’t going on the ride. Anyways, they’re supposedly taking it down at the end of the year so, might as well go and experience it right? It was rather.. boring. It might have been nicer if it was at night with all the lights and all. In the day, it was just, the KLCC, KL Tower, Times Square, other skyscrapers, the lake, houses far away.. But hey, at least I’ve been on “the largest portable wheel in the world, and the first overhanging a lake.”
- I went for the Christmas party at my aunt’s house. There were Christmas carols, good dinner, two games from which I got chocolate (which reminds me it’s half-eaten in the fridge). I’ve got lots of chocolate from the Cadbury Chocolate Factory in Tasmania - I didn’t mention that in my previous blogs I think. So yes, it’s time to get, fat(ter). Or not. Anyone wants chocolate?
- My eldest brother flew back again for work to New Zealand on Boxing Day. I’ll be seeing him when Chinese New Year comes. Did you know, that a lot of shops (and even the TV commercials) are playing Chinese New Year songs already? The year hasn’t even ended and Christmas just passed a few days ago, yet, they’ve already started playing. It’s.. so early. Well, okay, so it’s only about a month away, but still, I think it’s strange to hear it when the actual new year hasn’t even arrived yet. Anyways, talking about flying out, my parents left this morning. I said goodbye last night - it, was not a happy occasion *sobs*. But, I WILL see them this CNY. They’re coming back for two days I think. It’s been 10 years since they last came back for CNY. My 2nd brother on the other hand, won’t be here and I won’t be seeing him for a year after the 3rd of January since he’s going to start work in Melbourne.
- I went to Times Square yesterday. The monorail was packed like, seriously packed. You literally have to push to get in. My brother and I waited for the second train, AND, the second train malfunctioned. The power went off, they made some inaudible announcement. Lasted for about 15 minutes during which, people started leaving because they must have felt hot and had to breathe stale air since the air-conditioning was turned off. Did I mention that everyone was standing/sitting without almost any gap in between? I think they stopped all the monorail trains because of that train.
So, that’s basically the somewhat interesting parts of these few days. I must say, I hate the traffic congestion in KL city. And the monorail experience, was really an experience - I must remember not to use it at peak hours.
Tomorrow, I’m supposed to check-in or, more like, attend the briefing for accommodation. I wonder whether I’ll be meeting my roommates/housemates.. Oh and Jun Jie’s taking SAM too! Happy is me! Haha. At least I know someone. In the event I don’t make new friends (which I don’t hope will happen), I’ll just drag him around and explore college. (Okay Jun Jie?)
PS: I’m in KL already and will be studying here. So if you all happen to come here, tell me okay! Oh and I replied the comments in the previous post.
I think the secret is a bunch of bullshit. Seriously, the book itself costs about 30+ for a pocket size book?! It’s a rip off, really. To prey off people’s naive-ness and search for ‘happiness.’ Happiness come from within, and its really, about your perspective of it. Not about some stupid shit on ‘thinking positive.’ Sometimes life throws you curve balls, and you’ve only got two choices basically: to live or die.
No positive thinking will help you through it. Law of attraction, total bullshit. Pfft.
HAHA SORRY. I got a little bit carried away.
p/s: IM BACK IN AU YAY!
I depend on subtitles too. Haha. Weird habit.
Heard that you have my habit of running behind people in netball game? XD Sama sama eh. You take care in KL. Will visit you next time, hopefully. Must show me around.
esther what a negative comment you’ve added to the post. While I don’t take every thing as advice from “The Secret” there is still some very good advice in the book. Unfortunatley there is the business side to the self-help book market, but that’s part of it. People can always get a used version if it cost too much though. I also think there are a lot of good life coaches and books out there like Marci Shimoff author of Happy for No Reason whom also comes from “The Secret” and Chicken Soup fame that can help others find happiness too.
Negative, still. But its my opinion. So… *shrugs
I just think is a bunch of bullshit. It does contain to some extent, good advice but should you charge Heaps of cash for it? seriously? Meh.
My opinion though. And i still think happiness isn’t found in a book that gives you advice. It should be found within yourself. So..
Oh jiayean, I’m assuming you don’t know this ethan meadow fellar?
haaha. is it creepy to find out strangers read your blog
I remember watching the move Secret by Jay Chou with my brother. Luckily there was subtitles because my brother can’t do without it. Because he doesn’t like to speak Chinese =/ I don’t depend on subtitles for Chinese, but for English I do, which is strange, because usually I speak English more than Mandarin.
Oooh a W200i
I love Walkman phones, but I still prefer Nokia because I tend to stick to the first brand I use. *recalls about my chunky huge Motorola phone which I had to use because I gave my sis my phone when hers broke down* I don’t think I’d ever get a Motorola. It’s too scary (well, my phone at least, because despite how many times I dropped it, it won’t die!) >So yes, it’s time to get, fat(ter). So true, this is the fattening season. I’ve gained more weight this month
I’m sure I’d lose it again when school reopens, but then next year we have O Levels. And stress leads to eating more
Sorry for double commenting but theres a mistake in my previous comment -_- I got too used to putting a certain emot that I use too frequently, and now it ate up some HTML tags.
it should be
Perfectionism. I think.
Ethan Meadow: Thanks for your comment. Esther’s comment was very against it, but that’s how she feels about it. The reason for comments are really, for some kind of.. feedback yes? I think some of these kind of books have good advice too..
Esther: Hmm, it’s not really, finding happiness from a book, don’t you think? I mean, reading that book doesn’t make me, happier. It makes me … think? But yes, agreed on the expensive prices - plain ridiculous. Hey hey, I have people whom I link but don’t know personally. Sure strangers at first, haha but what harm can there be right?
Mable: Haha. Yes I remember coach saying a few times that I run behind. Show you around? I don’t think I’m qualified for that. I need to know how to get around first! Give me .. a few months. =p You take care too.
Chien Yee: Nokia’s nic e for messaging but then, somehow, there’s not many nice looking ones.. The Motorola flips are cool! Haha. O Levels are far away, my dear. We (my friends and I) didn’t even think about it over New Year’s! Don’t stress out too much.
Happy New Year, Jiayeannie, Miss Ang! I have the 7 Habits book too, exactly like yours, and like you, I thought of the same thing too.
And how dare Jun Jie take SAM instead of coming to ISB? He was supposed to come here. Was he intimidated about the sheer impossibility of IB? Lol! Didn’t see him coming to school either for a trial, so yeah…
I think for a woman like you, Nokia is better. Hahaha! More professional kaliah
Haha JY JY~ After being constantly reminded about it from a lot of people, the idea of O Levels stuck to my head. tsktsk. I know Nokia isn’t all too pretty, plus the price fluctuates a lot, but it can look professional, like what Shim said =)
Hi JiaYean! Junjie is in KL, too? I didn’t know that. How come nobody told me that he’s leaving/left. I feel so disconnected from you guys, you know. I haven’t seen Rita or any of our group of friends for so long EVEN THOUGH I’m in the mall for 9+ hours & 7 days a week :S I feel so sick of it already. Anyways, I’m still working there although my boss told me that I’ll be working else where. But there’s a slight change of plans. I’m still debating with myself whether to continue there or not. Until I’ve made my decision, I shall not waste any time when I can be earning some money. What do you think? Should I apply somewhere else again? They’ve extended me until end of January so February I’ll be free. Should I take that time off or work elsewhere? I don’t know. I need advice!
Shimney: Happy New Year to you too, Shimney! How dare? But what’s wrong? He come here and be my friend! Not yours! HAHA. =p Ee, Sony Ericsson nicer.. Haha
Chien Yee: I don’t want it to look professional! My brother’s one.. looks .. classy and professional, and I’m scared to handle it. Looks sleek but then, too classy for me. Haha. Just take things easy for O’s.
Chris: Yeap, Jun Jie’s here too. I think he left without telling a lot of people because, he wasn’t sure whether he was going to study here. Go bug Rita and ask her to visit you in the mall! Well, do you like working in SC? Or do you think you want to gain new experience? Maybe you should.. like take a break off a few days? Or the whole time till school starts if you want to enjoy the holidays. So, I guess, if you work, you earn money and you.. work la. But if you don’t work in Feb, you’ll have more than a month to relax.. and perhaps do nothing.. oh and you don’t earn money. Which sounds better?
